Our History
The vision for QMC was initially developed by two US Army Captains in March 2003. Both were called up to active duty to support America's "War on Terror". As the United States entered its second Gulf War, these two individuals discussed data in warfare and the best use of the information to survive on the ground. It was clear then that the unimpeded flow of information from higher headquarters to tactical operations centers was critical for effective and timely decision-making. At the heart of the discussion was the genuine concern of two officers for the welfare of the soldiers they were training.
As recent MBA graduates of the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University, they began developing the JSTARS (Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System) analogy to the use of strategic and tactical information in business. Commanders use the JSTARS information on terrain and enemy movement to allocate combat power at the most decisive time and place on the battlefield. A similar framework for effective decision-making for business operations is also warranted.
This framework depends on an insightful analysis of data against the backdrop of strategy. Data inputted by individuals or teams and derived from operational systems and external sources could be used to build a quantitative model. The model could provide a “road map” to the overall success of a company. Our tagline—Quantum Mechanics for the Enterprise(SM)—is a fitting description of our vision.
